Concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz is easily the most famous symbol from the holocaust and Nazi cruelty in the world. It’s found in the town Oswiecim near Krakow. These territories were under the German control during World War II. This place shows us the degree of Nazi war crimes and makes us see in which the borders of humanity actually are. A visit to Auschwitz is one thing that You’ll never forget.

The Death Factory

The Concentration area of the camp in Auschwitz was built-in 1940. It was among the first and the biggest Nazi camps within the territory of occupied Poland. The camp ground was split into three main parts – Auschwitz I – camp of compulsory work and administrative centre, Auschwitz II – Birkenau – extermination camp, where people were kept in inhuman conditions and murdered in gas chambers, and Auschwitz III Monowitz, where prisoners were employed by the biggest German companies and enterprises. It’s very hard to estimate the real number of victims killed in Auschwitz, but various sources are convinced that it’s between 1.A million to even about 4 million people.

The Terrifying Heritage

Two years after the end of World War II an element of the camp was renovated and converted into museum. Nowadays Auschwitz extermination camp is almost completely reconstructed and turned into the most important exhibition about the holocaust on the planet. The Camp is inscribed towards the UNESCO Global Heritage List.

Exhibitions

The Wall of Executions is easily the most impactful area of the camp, its an exhibit of garments, shoes as well as hairs of prisoners, information about cruel, pseudo-medical experiments performed on humans and also the cell of Maksymilian Kolbe, a Polish priest whom sacrificed his life for other prisoner and starved to death. Additionally a very touching exhibition about the cultural lifetime of the camp, which describes how prisoners preserved their cultures. They were composing music, writing poems and preparing performances to overlook the sorrow and to keep their humanity.

To consider…

A Visit to Auschwitz it is extremely educational, incredible and touching experience. Sightseeing the camp ground in respectful silence leads to a reflection about tolerance, human rights along with a need to care for peace. Auschwitz it’s an obligatory a part of every visit in Poland.
